Which regulators does a health sciences university deal with?
The university answers to NAAC and NIRF, and to UGC as a university. Its colleges answer to their own regulators: the National Medical Commission for medicine, the National Dental Commission for dental, the Indian Nursing Council for nursing, the Pharmacy Council of India for pharmacy, NCAHP for allied and healthcare courses including physiotherapy, and NCISM and NCH for AYUSH.
Does NAAC use a different manual for health sciences universities?
Yes. NAAC assesses health sciences universities under its Manual of Health Sciences for Universities, separate from the Unified Manual used for health sciences colleges.
Has the Dental Council of India been replaced?
Yes. The National Dental Commission replaced the DCI on 19 March 2026, with three autonomous boards: undergraduate and postgraduate dental education, dental assessment and rating, and ethics and dental registration.
