How can an institution improve its NIRF ranking?
By improving the data it reports as much as the performance behind it. Many institutions lose marks to incomplete or inconsistent figures in the Data Capturing System. A NIRF strategy starts by checking past submissions, modelling the marks each parameter needs for a target rank, and then planning parameter by parameter: Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach & Inclusivity and Perception.
Our approach: no one can promise a rank — NIRF ranks every institution relative to the rest. What we can do is make sure you get credit for everything you already do, and focus your effort where the marks are.
How we work
- Read your data. We analyse your last NIRF submissions (DCS) and public data, and flag figures that contradict each other or AISHE and NAAC.
- Model the rank. A parameter-wise simulation shows how many marks each parameter needs for your target rank.
- Plan by parameter. A practical plan with owners for TLR, RP, GO, OI and Perception — what can move this year and what takes longer.
- Prepare the submission. Your DCS data is prepared on Master Data Map, checked for consistency and backed by evidence.
- Review the result. After the rankings release, we compare outcomes with the model and adjust the plan.
What institutions get
- A rank model, not guesswork. Master Data Map’s NIRF rank simulator shows the marks each parameter needs.
- Contradictions caught early. The DCS reader flags figures that disagree with each other, AISHE or NAAC before NIRF sees them.
- A plan your departments can run. Owners and timelines for each parameter, with progress visible all year.
- Consistent data across frameworks. The same faculty, student and research figures for NIRF, NAAC, NBA and AISHE.
The five NIRF parameters, and where we focus
| Parameter | What NIRF measures | Where we help |
|---|---|---|
| Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR) | Student strength, faculty-student ratio, faculty qualifications and experience, financial resources | Faculty records and finance data reported consistently with AISHE and NAAC |
| Research & Professional Practice (RP) | Publications, citations, patents, sponsored research and consultancy | A publication and research-income plan your departments can act on |
| Graduation Outcomes (GO) | Pass rates, placements, higher studies and median salary | Complete, defensible outcome data for every graduating batch |
| Outreach & Inclusivity (OI) | Regional and gender diversity, economically disadvantaged students, facilities | Accurate category-wise data, often under-reported |
| Perception (PR) | Peer and employer perception | A long-term plan for visibility with academics and employers |
For context: IIM Sambalpur, an Edhitch platform client since 2018, moved from 66 to 34 in the NIRF Management rankings between 2022 and 2025.
Strategy that runs on Master Data Map
Your NIRF data lives on the same record as NAAC, NBA and AISHE, so every submission matches.
| Capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| NIRF rank simulator | Marks needed per parameter for a target rank |
| DCS reader | Flags contradictory or missing figures before submission |
| All five parameters | TLR, RP, GO, OI and Perception data on one record |
| THE and QS ready | The same data prepared for world rankings |
Frequently asked questions
Can a consultant guarantee a better NIRF rank?
No. NIRF ranks institutions relative to each other, so no one can promise a rank. A good strategy makes sure you get credit for everything you already do, removes data errors and focuses effort on the parameters where marks can be gained.
Where do most institutions lose NIRF marks?
Often in the data itself: incomplete faculty records, inconsistent student numbers, under-reported outreach data, missing graduation outcomes and research income that is not captured. These can usually be fixed faster than the underlying performance can change.
What is the NIRF Data Capturing System (DCS)?
The DCS is the portal through which institutions submit their NIRF data each year. The figures entered there are what NIRF scores, so their completeness and consistency matter as much as the institution’s actual performance.
How long before we see results?
Data corrections can show in the next ranking cycle. Research and perception improvements take longer, typically two to three cycles.
Do you work with first-time NIRF applicants?
Yes. We help first-time applicants check eligibility, prepare complete data and avoid the common errors that lead to institutions not being ranked.
How is NIRF ranking strategy priced?
Each engagement is scoped to your category, size and goals, and quoted after an initial call.
