Why NBA CO-PO attainment is hard to get right

Faculty across engineering, management, pharmacy, and other streams are smart enough to do this. What they don't have is time, consistent methodology, or the defence-ready documentation that NBA peer teams demand.

Problem 01

Marks data scattered across systems

Internal assessment marks are in department registers. End-semester marks are in the examination cell. Indirect feedback is on paper forms or Google Forms. Pulling this together for even one semester takes weeks. Three years of historical data for an NBA submission is nearly impossible manually.

Problem 02

Methodology inconsistency across faculty

Different faculty interpret CO-PO mapping differently. One department maps every CO to every PO. Another maps sparingly. Direct-to-indirect attainment weightage varies from 70:30 to 90:10 across courses. Peer teams catch this inconsistency immediately and flag it as a systemic issue.

Problem 03

Framework changes are hard to track

NBA's GAPC v4.0 is mandatory for Tier-I engineering institutions from 1 January 2025. Management uses the Three Gates framework. Pharmacy follows a different PO structure. Architecture has its own rules. Most institutions don't have the bandwidth to stay current with all of this across all their programmes.

Problem 04

Faculty can compute — but can't defend

Faculty members often produce CO-PO attainment numbers that look right on paper, then freeze when the NBA peer team asks "why did you choose 80:20 direct-to-indirect?" or "show me the survey response data backing PO6 attainment." Confidence comes from training on methodology, not just from the numbers themselves.

How it plays out in practice

A leading Indian management institute came to Edhitch with 3 years of academic data spread across their LMS, examination records, and department spreadsheets. Their NBA peer visit was 6 weeks away, and faculty had produced CO-PO attainment numbers in Excel that didn't reconcile across departments.

“Within a week, Edhitch delivered a unified CO-PO attainment framework across all programmes, with faculty trained to defend every number. The peer visit went smoothly — no observations on methodology.”

Frequently asked questions

How can Edhitch deliver NBA CO-PO attainment in just 1 week?

The speed comes from automation and experience. Most institutions try to compute CO-PO attainment manually — faculty spend hundreds of hours tagging questions, aggregating marks, and calculating per-CO scores. Edhitch uses a proprietary automation pipeline that ingests your academic data (marks, faculty records, course outcomes, survey responses) and produces CO-PO attainment matrices across all courses and programmes within 5-7 working days. The first 2 days are data ingestion, days 3-5 are computation and validation, days 6-7 are faculty training. The methodology is the same one that NBA accepts — we just remove the manual bottleneck.

Which NBA streams does Edhitch support?

All NBA-accredited streams. Engineering under GAPC v4.0 with 11 POs aligned to Washington Accord 2021. Management under NBA's Three Gates framework with 400 marks across Faculty, Industry, and Alumni dimensions. Pharmacy per the NBA Pharmacy manual POs. Architecture, Law, Dental, Medical, and other NBA-accredited programmes under their category-specific rules. Each stream has different evaluation logic — for example, management programmes don't use CO-PO in the same way engineering does, and our framework adapts accordingly.

What academic data do we need to provide?

Ideally 3 years of: (1) Internal assessment and end-semester examination marks with question-to-CO mapping where available, (2) Faculty records with qualifications and course assignments, (3) Course outcome statements as currently written, (4) Course-end survey or feedback data for indirect attainment, (5) Student enrollment and graduation data for throughput analysis. If some of this is missing or in mixed formats, we work with what's available and identify gaps during the first 2 days of the engagement. We've seen every variation of data quality across 50+ programmes — there's almost nothing we haven't handled.

What does the faculty training include?

The faculty training is what makes institutions pass the NBA peer team visit. It's not enough to have correct CO-PO numbers — your faculty need to explain the methodology, defend the attainment scores, and show how gaps are being addressed. Our training covers: Bloom's Taxonomy-based CO design, direct and indirect attainment calculation logic, how to interpret the CO-PO matrix, handling peer team questions on methodology, and common mistakes that draw adverse observations. Delivered as a live workshop plus recording plus reference materials plus Q&A support.

How is this different from using CO-PO software?

Software solves the ongoing computation problem — how to track CO-PO attainment semester after semester once you're set up. This engagement solves the retrospective-plus-training problem — how to produce clean 3-year historical CO-PO attainment when you're 6-12 weeks from your NBA peer visit. Most institutions nearing NBA submission don't have clean historical data in a software system — they have marks scattered in Excel, LMS exports, and departmental records. Edhitch's 1-week sprint processes that historical data, produces NBA-compliant CO-PO attainment for the 3-year window required, and trains your faculty. After the sprint, institutions often adopt our CO-PO software for ongoing use — but the immediate problem is compliance for the upcoming peer visit.

Does Edhitch guarantee NBA accreditation approval?

No consultant can or should guarantee NBA approval — the decision rests with NBA based on multiple factors including faculty, infrastructure, research, and institutional systems, not just CO-PO attainment quality. What Edhitch ensures is that your CO-PO attainment methodology and documentation will stand up to NBA peer team scrutiny, and that your faculty will be prepared to defend it. In 12 years of accreditation advisory, institutions that work with us reach peer visits with clean, defensible CO-PO data — which removes one of the most common reasons for observations and deferrals.

What happens after the 1-week engagement?

You receive: complete CO-PO attainment matrices for all courses across 3 years, SAR Annexure 3.1-ready documentation in NBA format, direct and indirect attainment computations with justification notes, faculty training recording and reference cards, and 30 days of email support for clarifications that emerge while preparing for the peer visit. Many institutions re-engage us for mock peer team visits or SAR writing, but the 1-week sprint itself is complete with standalone deliverables.

What does the engagement cost?

Engagement scope and cost vary based on number of programmes, data quality, and stream complexity. Management programmes with 2 streams is different from engineering programmes with 12 streams. We prefer to discuss scope on a call rather than publishing a number that might not fit your situation. Book a 30-minute call and we'll share a scoped proposal within 24 hours.

For official framework documents, visit the National Board of Accreditation, the Washington Accord (international engineering accreditation benchmark), or AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).
